our Spore: Galactic Edition was delivered yesterday - a day before release yay! :D

unfortunately their website has been down both today and yesterday so we haven't been able to register yet ¬_¬ but other than that we've been having loads of spore-y funs :D

so to the game! this is waay more fun than i thought it would be...i don't know how long i'll want to play the game for before i wonder why i'm bothering (i get that with sim-style games, i really enjoy them for a couple of months then my brain just sort of wakes up and discovers theres no real point XD )

anyway, the cell game is really fun! you're this tiny cell and you have to swim around, finding food to eat to grow bigger and unlock more parts...but you have to watch out for the other occupants of the ocean who are big and scary! the sense of depth in this section is really cool, here's a screenshot (from the net, not of my game, i didn't think to take any at cell stage >.<; )



you'd be one of the little squiggly ones, trying to avoid all the horrible big ones! >.< my little creature is called the Squeeaboo (the game automatically generates little avatar-sized images of your animals...so the cell stage of mine is now a userpic :D ) the Squeeabo is a small, scaredy green herbivore that has no attacks but can run away really fast! XD

i left the game at the stage after my creature had just crawled onto land and started a nest with his family (aww XD ) so here they are a little more grown up (in the game you just press C to capture the screen and it saves shots off for you - very convenient! )



they've grown a little bit more than that now but this is my best screenshot of them so far ^^;;

this is such a cute game! well...its cuter as a herbivore because you're not having to rip other creatures apart constantly! but yeah, its cool...next up, i must make bumblemoos! :D

man i have seriously not got as much done as i should have this week - not only because of flickr, but also because butressed ceilings are a bitch to model! >.<;

but anyway, just to show i've made some progress, here's a random render...i still need to make the entrance archway and the tree in the centre...

Today I took a nice walk into town with my first film on my first attempt at a manual camera. The weather was less than ideal, it was very very overcast but I just wanted to get it over with, get used to the viewfinder, get used to using the camera, see if I can get it to work at all, and most of all... see if there are any light leaks. I felt certain I was going to get light leaks, so I had a very 'I don't care attitude'. I've also read that most peoples' first films come out completely rubbish. Mine was no exception to the rule XD I tried taking a lot of shots. Most of my shots were out of focus, had camera shake, or were just shit thank you viewfinder (I'm not used to it)... oh and the weather was so grey they all came out... well... grey and bleh.

But on the plus side.... NO LIGHT LEAKS!!!! YAY!!!!!!! And the camera works! That's all I really care about right now.

The photos didn't have the quality I was after. I'm pretty disappointed but I'm not going to give in. I'll try a different speed film, on a sunnier day, and I'll probably go to a different developer.

The problem with the camera and my failure to use it; the whole thing relies on guess work. You have to work out the shutter speed, the depth of field, the focus... everything without any help. You get one of them a little bit out and your photo is ruined...and you don't know about it until it's too late. It's going to take a LOT of practice.

This is the only photo from my roll that I liked, and even this one is blurry and lacking in colour depth.... and the composition is off from what I was going for. It's so lacking in a certain 'quality' I wanted shooting with film. Maybe I should try cross-processing too. It really does take a lot of work to get good shots out of these cheap old cameras, but once you get the hang of it it's supposed to be very rewarding.

I think I might take my Supersampler to Paris. And I'm going to buy an Olympus XA-2, it's not so manual XD

i just realised that we've finally got a weekend to ourselves this weekend!  with the added bonus of several cool things B-)

- we're going to be getting the first futurama film from LoveFilm
- an amazon order with the next series of star trek: TNG plus a some cool manga, comics and an art book
- spore: galactic edition should be with us in 2 days
- plus i have a comic i'm really enjoying working on....

yay for awesome weekends! :D  seriously, unless there's also pinkapplejam  and raggedy_man 's BBQ of awesome to look forward to also (weather permitting ^^; ) i ain't leaving the house! XD
